The Charter High School for Law and Social Justice is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Science Teacher for the 2017-2018 school year.

Who are we?

The Charter High School for Law and Social Justice will provide students from the Bronx with a comprehensive high school education and lay the academic and social groundwork for success in college and careers. Using a theme of law and social justice, the School will engage, inspire, and empower students, and will equip them with the academic skills to earn a Regents diploma and gain admission to the college of their choice prepared for success. The School will create a pathway for its students to law school and careers as attorneys. The pathway will include mentoring opportunities with law students and attorneys and partnerships with institutions of higher learning. These institutions will offer college and law school experiences to our students and share with them the academic benchmarks and habits necessary to gain entrance to college and law school. Our ideal Science candidates will possess the following qualifications:

  • A minimum of two years teaching experience in an urban high needs secondary school setting
  • Proven ability to provide high quality teaching of all sections of High School Science including Forensics, Earth Science, Enviromental Science, Living Environment, Physics and Chemistry to students with diverse needs.
  • Track record in obtaining dramatic and measurable results in both academically and socially and emotionally
  • Experience in curriculum planning using Understanding By Design
  • Deep content knowledge and can effectively teach that content knowledge to a range of secondary grades
  • Deep understanding of Common Core standards and high quality but exciting teaching practices that ensure students exceed those standards
  • Experience with and a deep understanding of both formative and summative assessment and corresponding action planning
  • Experience with planning and executing advisory and college readiness program for High School students
  • Work in law and social justice projects in and out of schools settings
  • Experience working with teacher teams
  • Master's Degree strongly preferred
  • Flexibility and "Roll-up my sleeves" attitude -willingness to take on additional roles as it relates to the needs of a start up organization.
